Jack K.

“Jack is a Type 1 diabetic raising money to help newly diagnosed families cope with their new forecast on life. Your donation, in any amount, will help pay for a “kit” to be donated to a newly diagnosed family, complete with the “Diabetes Solution” book, as well as several first rate cookbooks and other educational materials about managing Type 1 diabetes with a low-carbohydrate diet. Non-diabetic blood sugars are possible, and Jack’s aim is to tell the world one family at a time!
Jack was diagnosed in December 2016, at the age of 2. His doctors did not mention that he could achieve non-diabetic blood sugars (70-100 mg/dL) by eating a low-carbohydrate diet and injecting only small amounts of slow-acting insulin at a time. Rather, they told his parents to target 150 mg/dL (about double the measure of a non-diabetic), and to feed him a diet consisting of at least 40% carbohydrates along with a whopping dose of rapid-acting insulin to “cover” the carbs. Three months later, in March 2017, he’d achieved an average blood sugar level of 151 mg/dL, per his “doctors’ orders,” but his parents were troubled by the constant and dramatic “rollercoaster” in his mood and blood sugar levels. On any given day, following the recommendation to “carb-and-cover,” Jack’s tiny body and mental acuity were under siege by blood sugar levels fluctuating between the low 50s to the high 300s, a particularly unhealthy result.
Fed up with the unpredictability of the “carb-and-cover” approach, Jack’s parents dug into the leading research on Type 1 and discovered that Jack could enjoy non-diabetic blood sugar levels (and happiness) if only he would restrict carbohydrates and change his insulin regimen. Following the nutrition and insulin  protocols advocated by LetMeBe83, which are further detailed in Dr. Richard K. Bernstein’s book “Diabetes Solution,” Jack’s average blood sugar level is 90 mg/dL, and he is thriving.
Each “kit” for a newly diagnosed family currently costs around $100. Jack’s fundraising goal is to spread LetMeBe83’s message to as many families as possible, but at a minimum 10 families. Please consider donating to this most urgent and important cause.”
